There's a long white strand hanging out the back of my sisters red-eared slider. What could this be?

My sister has a young red-eared slider and she called me telling me it has a white strand of something hanging out of his . She says he's acting normal otherwise, so far. I have a slider of my own and can't find a related symptom online? Is this a parasitic infection? Can someone tell me what it is?
