Appendectomy post-op bowel movements....non-exsistent?

I had an appendectomy tuesday evening.I was released from hospital wednesday without having one.I still have not had one.I am ping gas,but cannot go poo(I know,sounds stupid,but what else can I say?)I am not sure if I should try to take a stool softener of just try to contact the surgeon who did the operation.I cannot continue to go without one though,because I am already bloated from the gas they used to blow up my stomach during the operation.I am miserable,can anyone help?
